Manhunt Underway After Young Woman Murdered in Clerkenwell

Police Hunt Maher Maaroufe, 22

Detectives have named 22-year-old Maher Maaroufe as the prime suspect in the shocking murder of a young woman in Clerkenwell. Maaroufe is known to travel widely, with links across London and Cambridgeshire. Police warn the public: do not approach him. If spotted, call 999 immediately.

Fatal Attack in Student Accommodation

Officers rushed to a residential property on Sebastian Street, EC1, shortly after 5am on Saturday 19 March. They found the woman, believed to be 19, with serious neck injuries. Despite swift action by emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Linda Bradley, leading the case, said the victim was likely a student at City, University of London. “Her family have been informed and are receiving specialist support during this terrible time,” Bradley added.

Relationship Links and Urgent Appeal

Early investigations suggest the victim and Maaroufe were in a relationship and together on the night of the attack. Police are urgently seeking Maaroufe and urge him to turn himself in immediately.

“Anyone with information must come forward. Help us bring justice for this young woman,” said Detective Bradley.

Increased Police Presence and Public Reassurance

Chief Inspector Adam Instone stressed the impact on the local student community and assured them a full homicide investigation is underway. “Additional officers, including forensic teams, are at the scene and patrolling the area to reassure residents,” he said.
