Retired Man Jailed for Brutal Knife Attack on 64-Year-Old Woman

Kenneth Noble, 69, from Beehive Lane, Ferring, was locked up for 16 years on Wednesday, 29 June at Lewes Crown Court. He admitted assaulting a 64-year-old woman, known to him, in a vicious attack last September.

Gruesome Attack Foiled by Brave Electricians

The assault happened inside the victim’s flat, with no risk to the wider community. Detective Constable Kat Wilkins revealed the woman suffered three knife wounds to her neck and defensive injuries to her hands. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition but has thankfully recovered.

“This was an unprovoked and violent attack,” said DC Wilkins. “Luckily, a neighbour heard her cries for help and called nearby construction workers.”

Two electricians quickly sprang into action. They wrestled the knife from Noble and held him down with cable ties until police arrived. Their quick thinking stopped what could have been a fatal attack.

Heroes Awarded for Courage

The pair received a £500 High Sheriff’s Award for their bravery. Judge Christine Laing praised their “conspicuous bravery in dealing with Mr Noble, who was armed with a knife.”

“When confronted with the sight of a man armed with a knife attacking his wife, each of them instinctively ran towards the knife-man. It is only fair the court, the High Sheriff, and the County of West Sussex publicly recognise their actions. They will be invited to a public award ceremony later,” the judge added.

Lifetime Restraining Order for Attacker

Noble was also slapped with a lifetime Restraining Order banning any contact with the victim. Justice has been served, thanks to quick-thinking heroes and the swift hand of the law.
