Terrifying Moment Slingshot Ride Snaps at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland
Chaos erupted at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland last night when the slingshot ride’s cord snapped mid-launch, sending the seating pod crashing into a support beam with two terrified riders trapped inside.
Ride Launch Goes Horribly Wrong
Video footage captures the metal spherical pod, holding two passengers, as the ride’s electrical mechanism tightens the cords before launch. But instead of shooting straight up, the pod hurtles sharply to the left.
One of the elastic cords on the right side fails to pull, causing the pod to slam sideways into a metal support beam at the top of the tower. The cord partially snaps, leaving the pod hanging precariously on its side.
Trapped Riders and Shocked Spectators
Inside the pod, the riders were left stranded as stunned onlookers gasped at the shocking crash. Thankfully, there are no confirmed reports of injuries at this stage.
Winter Wonderland staff quickly sealed off the area and evacuated the ride, while London Fire Brigade rescue crews arrived on the scene but were not needed as the staff safely rescued the pair.
Safety Under Scrutiny at Popular London Attraction
The incident raises fresh safety concerns at one of London’s most popular festive attractions. Winter Wonderland organisers have been contacted for comment.
