Storm Isha Set to Batter UK with Harsh Winds and Heavy Rain
The UK is bracing for a brutal weekend as the Met Office slaps down an amber wind warning ahead of Storm Isha’s arrival. After a nippy spell of Arctic air stuffed the nation with snow and ice, milder weather is on its way—but it won’t come quietly. Expect fierce gusts and downpours to shake things up.
Amber Alerts for Winds Threaten Northern Ireland, England, Wales & Scotland
From Sunday evening, Storm Isha will unleash “very strong winds” across Northern Ireland, western England, Wales, and southern Scotland. The Met Office warns of massive waves and debris sweeping coastal roads and seafronts, risking lives and property. Power cuts and building damage are also on the cards. The amber warning runs from 6pm Sunday until 9am Monday.
Meanwhile, Sussex and Kent face their own battle with a second amber warning kicking in at midnight Sunday and lasting until 9am Monday. Southwesterly gales will howl through, with gusts hitting 50 to 60mph, making Monday morning a wild ride for commuters.
Milder Air on Horizon—but Don’t Relax Yet
Met Office deputy chief meteorologist David Hayter says the chill will ease into a “relatively benign” phase with dry spells expected across southern England on Friday and Saturday. But that calm won’t last. An Atlantic low-pressure system will barrel in from the west on Sunday, bringing wild winds and heavy rain nationwide. Expect more wind warnings as forecasts update.
Scotland Girds for Snow and Ice Mayhem
Two yellow weather warnings hit Scotland for snow and ice. Southern Scotland faces wintry showers and slick roads with a few centimetres of snow possible until noon. Central and northern Scotland could see up to 20cm of snow on higher ground, with freezing conditions lasting until mid-afternoon.
Storm Isha’s arrival means Brits must stay sharp and tuned into weather alerts. Prepare for a weekend of gusts, showers, and icy roads ahead!
