Granny Dragged Along Pavement in Brutal Bag Snatch Attempt in Cleveleys

Terrifying Attack on Elderly Woman

Police are hunting a masked thug after a woman in her 70s was violently dragged along a pavement during a botched robbery in Cleveleys on the morning of February 8.

The victim, from nearby Thornton, was walking near Terrys Carpets on The Crescent at 10.45am when a cyclist tried to snatch her handbag.

Despite her brave fight to hold on, she was knocked to the ground and dragged along the pavement, suffering injuries to her shoulder, arm, and legs.

Cyclist Flees Empty-Handed

The attacker, described as a tall man dressed in dark clothing and wearing a full black face mask resembling a fencing mask, pushed off on a dark pushbike towards the junction with Runnymede Avenue, leaving the victim injured but still clutching her bag.

Good Samaritans rushed to help the shaken woman before she was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage

No arrests have been made yet. Sgt Dan Whitaker of Fleetwood Police condemned the attack as “despicable and cowardly,” highlighting how the victim has been left “very shaken and upset.”

“I would appeal for anybody with information or footage of any kind which could help with our investigation to contact police,” Sgt Whitaker urged.
