Firefighters Race to Basement Blaze in Bromley Building
Fire crews scrambled to a three-storey mixed-use building on Downham Way, Downham last night after a cooling unit in the basement began to smoulder.
Quick Response Halts Smouldering Basement Unit
At around 6:13 PM on July 17, fire teams from Lee Green, Lewisham, and Eltham sped to the scene. About 15 firefighters and three fire engines tackled the incident.
Firefighters quickly isolated the power supply to the basement and secured the faulty cooling system to stop the situation from worsening. Luckily, no one was injured.
London Fire Brigade Praises Prompt Action
“Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to reports of smoke issuing from a mixed-use building on Downham Way in Bromley. A cooling system in the basement of the three-storey building had begun to smoulder. Firefighters isolated the basement’s power supply and worked to make the cooling system safe. There are no reports of any injuries,” a London Fire Brigade spokesperson said.
The brigade confirmed the emergency call came in at 6:13 PM and the incident was wrapped up by 6:58 PM.
