Gogglebox Seeks Funny Southern Families for New Series
The hunt is on for the next big hit on British telly! Gogglebox producers are searching for hilarious Southern families to join the iconic Channel 4 show. Since its debut nearly a decade ago, the simple concept of watching families react to popular TV has made stars of its cast.
Now, it’s time for fresh faces from the South to take their place on the sofa.
What Kind of Families Are They Looking For?
Channel 4 is keen to find families and groups of friends who don’t see themselves as TV personalities but have natural charisma and charm. Executive producer Victoria Ray said:
“The ideal people are ones who don’t know that they’re funny. We like people who are charismatic, engaging and don’t necessarily see themselves as TV personalities. We like to pick people who don’t want to be on the telly. It’s good when they have no filter because they don’t second-guess themselves when they’re talking. We basically want people that you warm to and want to see in your living rooms.”
Producers are especially interested in speaking to diverse groups who are currently underrepresented on the show.
Southern Stars Missing from the Gogglebox Line-Up
While the South West has been represented by Giles and Mary in Marlborough and Mary and Marina from Bristol, and the South East by Brighton’s Michael and Stephen Webb, the wider South of England remains under the radar.
Could your family fill that gap and become the next Gogglebox stars?
How to Apply and What’s the Pay?
Channel 4’s casting process remains a well-kept secret. A spokesperson revealed last year: “There is no way to apply to be on Gogglebox.”
But insiders say producers keep their ears to the ground. If you – or someone in your social circle – are funny and have a strong social media presence, don’t be surprised if you get a call.
Reports suggest Gogglebox stars earn around £1,500 per month per household. The payment is shared among all members appearing on screen. Plus, many cast members boost their earnings with social media endorsements, often doubling their income.
Not bad for just sitting back and watching TV!
