M23 Motorway Shutdown After Multi-Car Smash Near Gatwick
Major Crash Closes Both Directions
The M23 motorway near Gatwick Airport is shut both ways following a serious four-car crash earlier this morning. Emergency crews, including an air ambulance, rushed to the scene after the collision brought northbound traffic to a halt.
Traffic Chaos as Air Ambulance Touches Down
The southbound carriageway was also temporarily closed to allow the air ambulance to land and treat the injured. A National Highways spokesman confirmed: “The M23 is closed northbound between Junction 9 near Gatwick and Junction 8 near the M25 due to a collision. Surrey Police Traffic Officers are on site.”
Long Delays and Diversions in Place
Though the southbound side has now reopened, tailbacks stretch for miles either way. Motorists face significant delays, with a diversion route set up to ease the jam. Surrey Police have been contacted for more details.
Injuries and Aftermath
The air ambulance has left after providing urgent medical care. The extent of injuries remains unclear at this stage. Authorities are working hard to clear the wreckage and get traffic moving again.
