Kitchen Blaze Hits London Flat – No Injuries
A fire broke out in a second-floor flat’s kitchen, causing damage but thankfully no injuries. The blaze started small but filled the flat with thick smoke.
Alarm Raised by Sharp-Eyed Resident
A resident heard the fire alarm blaring and spotted heavy smoke spreading through the flat. They saw flames flickering on the kitchen worktop, quickly alerting the emergency services.
Firefighters Race to Scene – Fire Under Control Within an Hour
The London Fire Brigade were called at 12:37pm on Thursday 22 April 2022. Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Homerton and Stoke Newington stations tackled the blaze, bringing it under control by 1:30pm.
Cause Linked to Kettle – Safety Warning Issued
The fire is thought to be accidental, sparked by a kettle. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson urged:
“This incident is another reminder about the importance of having smoke alarms fitted in your home. You should have working smoke alarms in every room where a fire can start, plus a heat alarm in the kitchen and the bathroom. They should be tested regularly.”
