Gridlock Hits Surrey Motorway This Morning
A serious crash near Junction 9 on the M25 sparked havoc today, grinding all traffic to a halt near Leatherhead. Drivers were left fuming as snarl-ups stretched from Junction 8 all the way back to Junction 7 and the M23, causing chaos across the Surrey stretch of the motorway.
Stop-Start Traffic and Mile-Long Tailbacks
Traffic experts at Inrix reported:
“All traffic being temporarily held and long delays due to accident on M25 clockwise from J8 A217 Brighton Road (Reigate) to J9 A243 (Leatherhead). Congestion extended to J7 M23, with a mile of onlookers adding to the slowdown.”
Motorists faced frustrating stop-start conditions along a congested stretch, compounded by rubberneckers gawping at the wreckage.
Crash Details and Clearing Up Underway
The smash happened shortly after 7am, forcing a complete standstill for around 20 minutes as emergency services dealt with the scene. Although it’s unclear how many vehicles were involved, the wreckage has since been cleared and traffic is now easing.
Delays also bled into nearby junctions like Junction 6 near Godstone and the M23 northbound lanes.
