Massive Blaze Destroys Leyton Warehouse
Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters rushed to tackle a huge fire at a warehouse on Argall Avenue, Leyton. The two-storey building, undergoing refurbishment, was gutted in the blaze.
Dangerous Gas Cylinders Cooled
Fire crews worked swiftly to cool four gas cylinders on site. With the risk of explosions if heated, cooling them was a top priority.
Firefighters Battle Blaze Through the Night
Station Commander Karl Smith said: “On arrival, crews faced a well-developed fire with the ground floor, first floor, and roof all alight. They battled in scorching conditions and made steady progress bringing the fire under control. It’s likely to be a protracted incident with crews remaining on scene throughout the morning.”
The London Fire Brigade was called at 1.27am and had the blaze under control by 4.56am. Crews from Leyton, Homerton, Walthamstow, Stoke Newington, Bethnal Green, Hornsey, Leytonstone, and Tottenham stations all joined the massive effort.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the devastating fire is currently being investigated.
