Fire Breaks Out in Upstairs Bedroom of Wantage Home

Just before 3pm today, crews from Didcot and Abingdon Fire Stations rushed to tackle a blaze in a semi-detached house in Wantage. Smoke was pouring from the blackened upstairs windows when firefighters arrived.

Quick Action Saves the Day

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used a high-pressure hose reel to douse the fire in a first-floor bedroom. They then cleared the smoke using a high-powered fan, preventing further damage.

Fire Caused by Faulty Baby Monitor

Incident commander Jon Walker revealed the family were out when the fire started, with a neighbour raising the alarm. “We cannot stress enough the dangers of leaving electric devices unattended near combustible surfaces,” he warned.

Investigations found the fire sparked from a malfunctioning electronic baby monitor left on the bed.

Family and Dog Escape Unharmed

Neighbours rescued the family dog before firefighters arrived. Luckily, no people were hurt in the blaze.
