Passenger’s Hand Trapped in Elizabeth Line Doors at Ealing Broadway – Narrow Escape from Danger!

Close Call After Hand Trapped in Train Doors

A passenger had a terrifying moment just after midnight on November 24, 2024, when their hand got caught in the closing doors of an Elizabeth line train at Ealing Broadway station. Described as a “trap and drag” incident, the passenger was dragged alongside the train as it pulled away.

Thanks to a quick-thinking railway worker on the platform, the passenger was pulled to safety after being dragged 17 metres. The train was promptly stopped once the driver was alerted. Fortunately, the victim suffered only minor injuries.

RAIB Launches Formal Investigation

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) confirmed it is launching a full probe into the incident. Their inquiry will focus on:

  • The actions taken during the incident
  • Safety measures for boarding on Elizabeth line trains
  • Procedures after the incident occurred
  • Any hidden factors that caused or worsened the event

“We will publish our findings, including safety recommendations, once the investigation concludes,” an RAIB spokesperson said.

TfL and MTR Respond to Incident

Transport for London (TfL) stressed that safety remains their “top priority. The operator, MTR Elizabeth line, is also carrying out its own investigation.

“We’re sorry that our customer faced this distressing incident,” a TfL spokesperson said. “We will learn from it and improve operational safety.”

Both TfL and MTR are fully cooperating with RAIB and will share lessons learned across the rail industry.

Safety Takeaway: Stick to Boarding Rules

This rare but scary event is a sharp reminder to passengers to follow all safety protocols when boarding trains. TfL reiterated its commitment to passenger safety and will use the investigation outcomes to prevent future incidents.
