Flybe Set for a Comeback Early Next Year After Major Deal
Exeter’s beloved airline, Flybe, looks set to take to the skies once again in early 2021. This revival follows a fresh deal struck with hedge fund giant Cyrus Capital.
Flybe’s Fall and Future
Once flying over nine million passengers a year and employing 2,000 staff, Flybe went into administration in March. The collapse forced the cancellation of all routes from Exeter and other airports, grounding the UK’s largest regional airline.
New Deal Sparks Hope
Monday’s announcement confirmed that Flybe will relaunch under its iconic brand, pending some confidential conditions. The deal was completed with Thyme Opco, a firm linked to Cyrus Capital.
Officials Gear Up For Relaunch
Administrators revealed they are teaming up with Thyme Opco, Flybe’s management, and the UK Civil Aviation Authority to prepare the airline’s comeback.
“We are extremely excited about the opportunity to relaunch Flybe. The airline is not only a well-known UK brand, it was also the largest regional air carrier in the EU,” said a Thyme Opco spokesperson. “While we plan to start smaller than before, we expect to create valuable airline industry jobs, restore vital regional links across the UK, and help a crucial part of the country’s transport network bounce back.”
