A259 Crash Chaos at Newhaven – Road Reopens After Recovery
A nasty crash on the A259 at Newhaven brought traffic to a standstill this afternoon. The road was shut after an RTC (road traffic collision) near the swing bridge, sparking delays and emergency response.
Crash Closes Key Route – Two Recovery Trucks on Scene
At around 3:50pm, Sussex police confirmed the A259 was closed due to the accident. Emergency services rushed to the scene. By 5:25pm, two recovery trucks had arrived, ready to start clearing the wreckage.
Bus Services Diverted – Major Delays Hit Brighton & Hove
Brighton & Hove buses scrambled to reroute services around the closure:
- Routes BH12A and BH12X diverted from Rottingdean via Falmer Road, A27, and A26.
- Normal routes resumed at Newhaven Retail Park (12A) and Denton Corner (BH12X).
- BH12 to run Brighton to Newhaven, Lower Place only.
- Diversions apply both ways.
By 6:08pm, Sussex Police confirmed recovery work was complete and the A259 had reopened, easing the snarls.
