A 78-year-old man has been left with life-threatening injuries following a serious collision in an Aldi car park in Brighouse.

Emergency services were called to the supermarket car park on Halifax Road, Brighouse, at around 12.55pm following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 78-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he remains with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 46-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. West Yorkshire Police said the vehicle involved was a Toyota Prius.

The driver remains in police custody while enquiries continue. Officers from the force’s Roads Policing Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and have launched an appeal for witnesses. Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who was driving in the area and may have relevant dashcam footage.
