Winchester Christmas Market Cancelled Amid COVID Surge

In a blow to festive fans, organisers have confirmed the beloved Winchester Christmas Market is cancelled this year. The decision comes as COVID-19 cases surge and government restrictions tighten.

Safety Takes Top Priority

Winchester Cathedral, alongside partners including Winchester City Council and Public Health officials, issued a statement saying: “It is with great sadness we announce that the Cathedral Christmas Market will not be taking place this year.” They explained that despite exploring every option, health and safety concerns mean the event can no longer go ahead.

Charities and Local Traders Hit Hard

The cancellation hits more than just festive shoppers. Thirty charities, 120 independent retailers, and local businesses that rely on the market will face tough times ahead.

Festive Spirit Still Alive in Winchester

Despite the setback, preparations for Christmas in Winchester continue. The council has already begun putting up decorations, promising a festive switch-on event and new creative ways to bring Christmas cheer to the city this year.
