Woman ‘Kidnapped and Sexually Assaulted’ by Fake Taxi Driver in Portsmouth

Police are hunting a predator after a 28-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted in Portsmouth in the early hours of Sunday, May 1.

Shocking Crime Unfolds at Dawn

The victim was waiting in Guildhall Walk between 3am and 4.30am when a man posing as a taxi driver approached her. He convinced her to get into his car on Dorothy Dymond Street before driving off with her.

Victim Escapes in Purbrook Heath

Inside the vehicle, the man is accused of sexually assaulting the woman. Thankfully, she managed to escape the car in Purbrook Heath and immediately reported the attack to police at around 4.30am.

Suspect Arrested but Now on Bail

A 38-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested on suspicion of kidnap and common law sexual assault. He has since been bailed until July 28 as inquiries continue.

Police urge anyone who saw the incident or has been approached by a man posing as a taxi driver in Portsmouth to come forward.
