Karl Gates Jailed for Over Six Years After Brutal Car Theft and Assault
Karl Frederick Gates, 26, was locked up for six years and five months today (10 May) after stealing a car without permission in the early hours of 12 February from Cold Harbour Farm Road. The shocking crime didn’t stop there – Gates went on to violently assault the car’s owner, a 24-year-old woman, and her 24-year-old friend.
Brutal Attack Leaves Victims Scarred
Gates pleaded guilty to three serious charges:
- Taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent
- Section 18 – wounding with intent
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
Detective Constable Lucia Davies described the assault as “particularly horrific” and confirmed it was an isolated incident. She revealed one victim suffered lasting scarring – a painful reminder of the ordeal.
Community Support Crucial in Catching Offender
DC Davies praised local residents who helped police track down Gates. She also applauded the bravery of the victims and their families in facing the aftermath of the attack.
“I hope today’s sentence and Gates’ admission of guilt provides the victims with some comfort and that it will help to put the incident behind them,” said DC Davies.
