Detective Pleads for Break in Silence Over Teen’s 2018 Shooting

The hunt for Amaan Shakoor’s killers is far from over. The 16-year-old was gunned down outside Walthamstow Leisure Centre in April 2018. Now, the lead detective is begging those with information to speak up and end the silence surrounding his death.

Tragic Shooting Outside Leisure Centre

On the evening of April 2, 2018, Amaan was approached by two men and shot in the head. Paramedics rushed him to hospital, but he died the following day after spending a night in critical condition.

Detective Chief Inspector Urges Witnesses to Come Forward

“Three years have passed since this horrific incident that took a young man from his life,” said Detective Chief Inspector Perry Benton.

“They deserve justice and closure. We will not rest until those responsible are caught and face the courts.”

The police believe the shooting wasn’t random but linked to local gang tensions. Amaan was thought to be on the fringes of rival groups and may have been targeted because of it.

“There were others present when Amaan was shot, and even those not there but close to the situation likely know who did this,” DCI Benton added.

“I understand some see talking to police as betrayal. But not coming forward is an even greater betrayal to Amaan and his family.

“We need brave individuals to break the wall of silence and help deliver justice. We can support you — but you must take the first step.”
