Karl Frederick Gates (26) has today (10 May) been sentenced to six years and five months in prison. Gates took a car without the owner's consent from Cold Harbour Farm Road, 1, in the early hours of 12 February.

He later assaulted the owner of the car – a 24-year-old woman – and her 24-year-old friend. He pleaded guilty to: – Take a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent – Section 18 – wounding with intent – Assault a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm ​Officer in the case, Detective Constable Lucia Davies, said: “This was a particularly horrific assault against two young 1.

“Thankfully it was an isolated incident, however one victim has sustained some scarring, which will be a constant reminder of the assault.​​​​​​ ​​​​​“I would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the community who provided us with information as to Gates’ whereabouts and also to the victims and their families for the courage that they have shown since this assault.

“I hope today’s sentence and Gates’ admission of guilt provides the victims with some comfort and that it will help to put the incident behind them.”
