The UK Coastguard at Fareham sprang into action on Sunday afternoon, calling in two Isle of Wight Search and Rescue teams to help the island’s ambulance service.

Dangerous Extraction at Smugglers Haven

Teams from Ventnor and Bembridge Coastguard tackled a tricky rescue in the heavily wooded Smugglers Haven, near Devils Chimney. They used a pulley system to haul a 10-year-old boy some 200 yards through dense woodland.

Swift Medical Response

After the careful extraction, paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service placed the boy on a spinal board with a neck brace, then rushed him to St Mary’s Hospital for urgent treatment.
