Fatal Romford Hit-and-Run: Police Hunt Witnesses

Detectives are urgently appealing for witnesses after a deadly collision in Romford left one man dead and another injured.

Tragedy Strikes on Petersfield Avenue

At around 12:10am on Saturday, 11 July, police were called to reports of a car hitting two pedestrians at the junction of Petersfield Avenue and St Neots Road in Harold Hill.

Emergency services including London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance rushed to the scene. Despite their best efforts, a 58-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.

Second Victim Seriously Injured

The second pedestrian, also 58, was taken to an east London hospital. Thankfully, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Driver Flees but Is Caught

The 36-year-old driver fled the scene but was soon arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop. He has since been released under investigation.

Detectives Seek Witnesses and Dash Cam Footage

Officers from the Roads and Transport Policing Command want anyone who saw the collision or the vehicle leaving the scene to come forward.

They also urge drivers in the area to check any dash cam footage that could assist the investigation.
