Ayrshire Police Officer Targeted in Shocking Hit-and-Run
Police in Ayrshire have launched an urgent appeal after a police officer was deliberately struck by a car in an attempted murder attack.
Blue Ford Focus Rams Officer in Kilwinning
The terrifying incident happened just after 1.30am on Tuesday, 22 June, in Eglinton Place, Kilwinning. Two uniformed officers were en route to assist colleagues when a blue Ford Focus deliberately sped towards one officer.
The 28-year-old female officer was hit and suffered serious leg injuries. She was rushed to University Hospital Crosshouse where she is receiving treatment.
Driver Flees Scene – Police Hunt Underway
The driver fled immediately, sparking a wide-scale manhunt. Detective Inspector Stephen McCulloch from Saltcoats CID vowed to track down the culprit. He said:
“Our thoughts are with the constable, her family and colleagues, and we continue to offer them all the necessary support.
This incident is being treated as attempted murder and we will use all tools at our disposal to trace the person responsible.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Police are urging anyone who saw the blue Ford Focus or who was driving in Kilwinning town centre in the early hours on 22 June to come forward. Dashcam footage could prove vital.
