Firefighter Phil hangs up his helmet after 26 years of service

Longstanding hero calls time

Phil started at Yarmouth Fire Station back in December 1996. In 2011, he transferred to Freshwater, serving the West Wight and wider Isle of Wight community for nearly 26 years.

From fires to emergency care

For the last three years, Phil has doubled as an Emergency Care Assistant with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. Over his career, he tackled everything from blazing fires and road traffic accidents to countless emergency rescues.

Time for new adventures

Now, Phil is switching off his alert system to spend more time with his wife Amanda and chase a fresh new career. “We wish Phil every success and happiness in the future,” said a spokesman for Freshwater 1 Station.
