Stephen Owusu, a 23-year-old man from Beverly Road, Fallowfield, Manchester, has been sentenced to an indefinite hospital order after pleading guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. The sentencing comes after Owusu fatally stabbed Thomas Murphy, a 42-year-old man with whom he shared a terraced house, on September 24, 2022.
The tragic incident led to an investigation by the Greater Manchester Police Major Incident Team, who have expressed their condolences to Thomas Murphy’s family. Senior Investigating Officer Phil Reade stated, “Thomas Murphy was a completely innocent victim, and the thoughts of the whole investigation team remain with his family, especially his two daughters and his parents. We understand that the outcome of today’s proceedings cannot bring Thomas back, and the impact of his death will stay with his loved ones forever.”
