Aldershot Man Jailed for Attempted Rape and Strangulation
Darren Hendry, 35, from Denmark Street, Aldershot, has been slammed with a seven-year prison sentence after being found guilty of attempted rape, strangulation, and assault. On top of that, he faces an additional five years on licence and a life registration on the offender list.
The Crime and Court Battle
The ordeal began when Hendry’s victim managed to flee at 5 a.m. and seek help at Frimley Park Hospital. Hendry was arrested and charged with a slew of offences including rape, strangulation, and assault. While he pleaded guilty to criminal damage and harassment, he denied the graver charges.
After the trial, Hendry was cleared of some charges related to incidents in Brighton and Fleet but was convicted of one count of attempted rape, strangulation, and actual bodily harm.
Investigation Praise and Community Safety
Temporary Detective Constable Sean Cooke, who led the case, praised the victim’s courage: “This was a terrifying incident that has had a life-long impact on the woman involved. I would like to commend her strength and bravery during this difficult investigation and trial. I hope Hendry’s imprisonment allows her to rebuild her life.”
Cooke added a stark warning to offenders: “No one should have to live in fear. Violent and sexual crimes won’t be tolerated. We will hunt you down and ensure you face justice.”
