Brutal Assault in Rotherham: Man Attacked and Left in Fear
Robert Wilcox, 55, from St Johns Avenue, Rotherham, faced Sheffield Crown Court last Friday (24 November) after admitting to a savage attack on a man in his 70s. Wilcox pleaded guilty to assault occasioning grievous bodily harm (GBH) and criminal damage.
Drinks Turn Deadly: Victim Beaten with Barbell
The court heard how on 10 January 2023, Wilcox visited the victim’s home. What started as a few drinks quickly spiralled out of control when Wilcox suddenly grew aggressive. He pinned the elderly man to the kitchen floor, punching him relentlessly while hurling violent threats.
The terrified victim begged Wilcox to stop, fearing for his life. The attacker’s brutality worsened when he grabbed a barbell and smashed it repeatedly over the victim’s head. After the vicious assault, Wilcox stormed into the living room and smashed the man’s TV before fleeing, leaving his victim dazed and in agony on the floor.
Victim Left in Pain and Fear
The victim remains traumatised, suffering painful injuries and fears leaving his home after the terrifying ordeal.
“Wilcox carried out such a violent and aggressive attack on his victim, knowing full well that he was unable to defend himself and using his power and strength to terrorise and threaten the victim,” said investigating officer Rachel Scott.
“He took complete advantage, leaving the man fearing for his life not knowing if and when the attack would stop.”
“I am pleased that Wilcox will now face time behind bars. We are working closely with the victim to help support him so he can find closure and rebuild his life following this dreadful attack.”
