Man, 63, Charged with Two Sexual Assaults in Ashford Town Centre

Shocking Attacks in Ashford Restaurant

Ashford is rattled as Gheorghe Tirbu, 63, of Canterbury Road, faces two sexual assault charges after incidents in the town centre. The first attack took place on Saturday, 25 November 2023, when a woman was inappropriately touched over her clothing inside a local restaurant. Just five days later, on Thursday, 30 November, a second assault allegedly occurred at the same venue.

Kent Police Act Fast, Arrest Made

Kent Police moved quickly after the second report, arresting Tirbu on the very same day. He has since been charged with two counts of sexual assault by touching. The swift police response highlights the force’s commitment to cracking down on offences in the community.

Court Appearance and Bail Conditions

Tirbu appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 1 December. The court granted him conditional bail, with a return date set for 16 August 2024 at Margate Magistrates’ Court. The case remains ongoing.

Police and Community Urge Public to Speak Out

In response to these unsettling events, authorities are urging locals to stay alert and report any incidents related to Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). Victims are encouraged to use Kent Police’s online reporting service for non-emergencies. For urgent help, dial 999 immediately.
