The victim has been formally identified as Christopher Storey, a resident of Barnston.
The incident occurred just before 9.40am when a blue Mercedes collided with a concrete World War II Military Pillbox on a bend in the road. Despite prompt medical attention from paramedics, Christopher Storey succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the Lead Investigating Officer from the Merseyside Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, expressed condolences to Christopher’s family: “My thoughts are with Christopher’s family at this sad time. They are being supported by specially trained Police Officers, and I ask that their privacy is respected.”
Authorities are appealing to witnesses who were in the vicinity of Brimstage Road yesterday morning. Specifically, they seek information from anyone who observed the silver Mercedes CLK320 on its journey to Brimstage Road.
Local residents and business owners are urged to review their CCTV footage along the car’s route, which extended from the general direction of Gayton, past Heswall railway station, and led to the crash site near the roundabout at Junction 4 of the M53.
Additionally, motorists who were in the area during the specified time frame are encouraged to check their dash cam recordings. Often, these cameras capture crucial evidence unbeknownst to the driver. Any seemingly insignificant information could prove vital to the ongoing investigation.
