Surrey Police Slammed for Ramming Loose Cow with Patrol Car
Viral Video Sparks Outrage
Surrey Police are facing a storm of criticism online after footage emerged showing officers attempting to control a runaway cow by ramming it with a police vehicle in Staines-upon-Thames. The dramatic scene, caught on camera yesterday evening, has gone viral and sparked widespread anger.
Distressed Cow Left Injured
The video shows the police car striking the cow, which is knocked forward, then hit again as the vehicle pushes on. Surrey Police confirmed they responded to reports of a cow causing traffic chaos around 8.55pm on June 14. Their efforts to contain the animal, however, left it “increasingly distressed and injured.”
The cow is now safely contained in a local park, with officers and a vet on site.
Police Defend Their Actions
Chief Inspector Adam Tatton told the public that safety was the force’s top priority and assured everyone they are committed to resolving the situation responsibly. Despite this, many social media users questioned if gentler methods could have been used to avoid harming the cow.
Animal Welfare vs Police Tactics
The dramatic incident has ignited a fierce debate about animal welfare and policing tactics. Critics argue the force’s approach was heavy-handed, calling for more humane and effective ways to handle such situations in future.
