A poignant tribute has been placed at the scene of a tragic accident in Eltham, which claimed the lives of a 38-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child. The incident occurred on the A20 near the junction with Kidbrooke Park Road, involving an unmarked police car.
Emergency services, including London’s Air Ambulance, rushed to the scene, and the road was closed for over 12 hours as teams worked to respond to the collision. The pregnant woman, found inside one of the vehicles involved, sadly succumbed to her injuries, along with her unborn baby.
A bouquet of white flowers, the first tribute to be laid at the site, has been propped against railings. Alongside the flowers, a candle has been lit in memory of the victims. The heartfelt message attached to the bouquet reads:
My deepest thoughts are with you and your baby, your family and friends. The most awful tragedy that should never have happened. Rest in peace beautiful and your baby.”
A local resident, who asked not to be named said: “We came rushing out once we heard loud bangs, it was chaos. My thoughts are with the woman’s family.”
Police have confirmed that two officers inside the unmarked police car involved in the crash were taken to hospital but have since been discharged.
Authorities have urged road users to seek alternative routes as the closure on the A20 is expected to remain in place for today. The Metropolitan Police have referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for further investigation.
