Gas Explosion Rocks Preston Home – One Hospitalised
Emergency crews raced to Gillett Road, Preston, shortly after 10:30pm on Saturday night following a suspected gas explosion that left one man badly burned. Lancashire Police, Fire and Rescue, and North West Ambulance Service all scrambled to the scene as chaos unfolded.
Severe Damage and Evacuations
The blast tore through the rear of the property, blowing out walls and leaving extensive damage. Specialist Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams were called in to help firefighters secure the unstable building and prevent further hazards.
Paramedics treated one individual at the scene before rushing him to hospital. The man’s condition hasn’t been disclosed, but police say his injuries are not life-threatening. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution while emergency crews worked tirelessly to make the area safe.

Cadent Gas specialists are now on site, helping determine the cause of the explosion. Authorities have shut down Gillett Road, warning residents and commuters to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
Police Confirm Full Investigation Underway
“We were called by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service at 10.35pm to a report of a gas explosion,” a Lancashire Police spokesman said.
“Significant damage was caused to the property. A man suffered burn injuries and has been taken to hospital. Thankfully, his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.”
“A small number of neighbouring properties were evacuated. A joint investigation with the Fire and Rescue Service will establish the cause and circumstances of the explosion.”
