A murder investigation has been launched following the fatal stabbing of a 28-year-old man in Hemlington in the early hours of Friday, 28 February 2025.
Emergency services were called to Fonteyn Court shortly after midnight, responding to reports of a stabbing inside a property. Despite urgent life-saving efforts by police officers and paramedics, the victim tragically died in an alleyway near the scene.
Police Investigation Underway
Detectives from Cleveland Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) have launched a full-scale murder investigation, with officers conducting house-to-house enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage.
A number of crime scenes remain in place, and police are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area around the time of the incident.
Senior Investigating Officer Matt Hollingsworth reassured the public that officers are working “around the clock” to identify and detain those responsible.
“We have a couple of scenes in place as we begin extensive enquiries. I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the stabbing and either witnessed what took place or has information.”
“I understand there will be concern in the local community, and I want to reassure residents that we are doing everything we can to bring those responsible to justice.”

Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in Hemlington, with additional patrols deployed to reassure the public and assist with the investigation.
