The community is reeling after 15-year-old Izaiah Smith lost his life in a tragic incident at the Beckenham Place Park lake on Friday evening, 6 April 2025. Izaiah was a hugely popular and talented footballer, playing for Dorking Wanderers FC.

Desperate Search Ends in Sorrow

Emergency services were scrambled after reports of a boy struggling in the water just after 3pm. A seven-hour search ensued involving specialist divers, ambulance crews, and firefighters. Izaiah’s body was finally recovered at 10:42pm. Despite being rushed to hospital, he was sadly pronounced dead.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson said: “His death is being treated as unexpected but not believed to be suspicious.”
