Man Charged with Murder After Shocking Lloyds Bank Stabbing in Derby
Deadly Attack Rocks Derby City Centre
A man has been charged with murder following a brutal stabbing at a Lloyds Bank branch in Derby city centre earlier this week.
Haybe Nur Cabdiraxmaan, 47, from Mickleover, Derby, faces murder charges over the fatal stabbing of 37-year-old Gurvinder Johal. The attack happened inside the St Peter’s Street bank at around 2.30pm on Tuesday, 6 May.
Johal, known to friends as “Danny,” was rushed to the scene but tragically pronounced dead. He was a customer at the bank when the horrific incident took place.
Prosecutor Confirms Charges and Court Appearance
Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Samantha Shallow said:
“Following a review of the evidence provided by Derbyshire Constabulary, we have authorised criminal charges in relation to the death of Gurvinder Johal.”
Cabdiraxmaan is set to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday, 8 May).
Second Man Arrested in Related Investigation
Police have also arrested another man in his 30s on suspicion of assisting an offender. This individual remains in custody as investigations continue.
The Crown Prosecution Service has warned that legal proceedings are ongoing, and reporting restrictions are in place to guarantee a fair trial.

Tributes have flooded in for Gurvinder Johal, described by local councillor Ajit Atwal as a “humble, kind” businessman who would “go above and beyond for everyone.”
