Man Charged with Murder After Fatal Stabbing Inside Derby Lloyds Bank

A man has been charged with murder following a shocking stabbing inside a Lloyds Bank branch in uk/where/derby/">Derby city centre earlier this week.

Haybe Nur Cabdiraxmaan, 47, from Mickleover, Derby, has been charged with the murder of Gurvinder Johal, 37, who died after being attacked inside the St Peter’s Street bank around 2.30pm on Tuesday, 6 May.

Johal — known to friends as “Danny” — was pronounced dead at the scene. He was confirmed to be a customer at the bank.

In a statement, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Samantha Shallow said:

“Following a review of the evidence provided by Derbyshire Constabulary, we have authorised criminal charges in relation to the death of Gurvinder Johal.

Cabdiraxmaan is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday, 8 May).

Police also arrested a second man, aged in his 30s, on suspicion of assisting an offender. He remains in custody.

The Crown Prosecution Service has reminded the public and media that criminal proceedings are active and reporting restrictions apply to ensure a fair trial.

Tributes have poured in for Mr Johal, described by local councillor Ajit Atwal as a “humble, kind” businessman who would “go above and beyond for everyone.

Police continue to appeal for any witnesses or information relating to the attack. Those with information should quote reference 25*260624 when contacting Derbyshire Police.
