A 78 year old pensioner who has lived on the Island for over forty year sparked a major rescue operation involving Four fire appliances from Hayling Island,Cosham and a specialist water rescue unit from Fareham after he thought it would be quicker to take a short cut across a creek this afternoon. When the blue automatic Nissan he was driving became immobile he the got out and became trapped in mud. Locals rushed to help the OAP known locally as David before Fire crews arrived. The man was treated by Medics from South Central ambulance whilst fire crews used specialist winching equipment to recover the vehicle. After a cup of the the man than drove off in the vehicle.
