Oxford Road in Reading on lockdown as Police arrest nine people

Police are currently at the scene of an incident in Oxford Road, Reading. Officers were called at about 4.50am following reports of an altercation taking place near Lloyds Pharmacy. Police and armed officers along with other emergency services have attended an address in the road, where a number of people inside the address were in possession of bladed weapons. Oxford Road has been closed at this time as a precaution. Officers remain at the scene and a number of arrests have been made in connection with this incident. It is not currently believed that anyone has sustained serious injuries but the road remains closed at this time. Drivers are advised to avoid the area. A spokesman from South Central Ambulance Service says the service cannot reveal any details of the incident, but has confirmed paramedics are on standby at the scene but have not yet treated anyone.   UPDATE:11am Oxford Road in Reading has now re-opened following an earlier incident. Nine people have been arrested on suspicion of public order and weapons offences in connection with this incident. They remain in custody at this time.
