A 43-year-old man from East Timor has been locked up for 17 years after grooming and sexually abusing a young girl in Winsford.

Tomas Sarmento’s Sick Crimes Revealed

Tomas Sarmento, living in the Winsford area, was found guilty at Liverpool Crown Court of raping a girl under 13 and causing her to engage in sexual activity. The shocking abuse took place between 2022 and 2023, starting when the girl was just 8 years old.

Sarmento lured the victim to his home by promising access to his Wi-Fi. Once inside, he carried out the horrific abuse.

Brave Victim Speaks Up, Police Step In

The victim bravely confided in a friend, who helped report the abuse to the police. Detectives launched an immediate investigation. Sarmento denied all allegations but was charged following the probe.

Heavy Sentence and Long-Term Restrictions

Besides his 17-year prison term, Sarmento was slapped with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must sign the Sex Offenders Register for a decade.

Justice has been served for the brave young victim.
