A dangerous drink-driver has been locked up after leading Sussex police on a high-speed pursuit through Brighton last summer.
Chase Ends in Cannon Place
On 22 July, officers from the Sussex Police Roads Policing Unit spotted a speeding Seat Arona tearing through the Seven Dials area. The driver, later identified as 26-year-old Jordan Lewis, took police on a chase through the city before finally stopping in Cannon Place.
Lewis, who has no fixed address, was arrested on the spot. Thankfully, no injuries were reported to him or anyone else during the incident.
Multiple Offences, High Blood Alcohol Level
- Taking a vehicle without consent
- Driving without a licence
- Driving without insurance
- Drink-driving with 137mg alcohol in 100ml blood (legal limit: 80mg)
Lewis refused to answer police questions initially but later pleaded guilty to all charges at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.
Justice Served: 34 Weeks Behind Bars
On 11 March, the court handed Lewis a 34-week jail sentence. He was also banned from driving for 18 months and slapped with a £154 victim surcharge.
This sentence sends a clear message: drink-driving and dangerous pursuits won’t be tolerated on Brighton’s streets.
