A man and a woman have died after the car they were travelling in crashed into a stationary digger in Greater Manchester, with two other occupants arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Emergency services were called to the A57 Hyde Road in Gorton following reports of the serious collision. Four people were travelling in the car when it collided with the parked construction vehicle.
Two people pronounced dead
A man and a woman suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of emergency responders. Their identities have not yet been formally released. Two other men in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Two men arrested
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the two injured men have since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. They remain in police custody while detectives continue their enquiries.
Police appeal for witnesses
Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Detective Sergeant Louise Warhurst said:
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims in this tragic incident.
“We are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the moments leading up to this incident, or anyone who has mobile phone, Ring doorbell or dashcam footage, to come forward and assist our investigation.”
