Extinction Rebellion Storms Bow Industrial Estate: Six Arrested
The Metropolitan Police are keeping a tight grip on Extinction Rebellion protests that intensified today, Tuesday, 16 July. Early this morning, demonstrators blocked entrances at an industrial estate in Bow, halting business operations and causing major disruption.
Six Held for Aggravated Trespassing and Obstruction
Police arrested six protestors—three men and three women aged 30 to 67—on suspicion of aggravated trespassing and highway obstruction. All were taken into custody as officers cleared the site. The activists have since retreated to Waterloo, where officers remain on high alert to prevent further disruptions.
Met Vows Swift Action Against Disruptive Protests
“We absolutely recognise the right for people to protest,” said Commander Jane Connors, “but we will continue to act against those who break the law to keep disruption to Londoners at an absolute minimum.”
Police Liaison Teams stay in constant contact with protest organisers to monitor plans and safeguard businesses across London. Officers warn that construction sites remain prime targets this week and urge firms to report suspicious activity immediately by calling 101.
Additional Arrest Caught on Exton Street
On Monday, 15 July, a 63-year-old man was also arrested on Exton Street, SE1, on suspicion of a Section 5 Public Order offence. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
