Jailed for Tossing Excrement at Prison Officer

Edward Highton has been slapped with a hefty two years and three months behind bars after chucking excrement at a prison officer.

The vile attack happened at HMP Swaleside in September 2018. CCTV footage shows the 40-year-old calmly stepping out of his cell and deliberately hurling the noxious substance at staff.

Guilty Plea Lands Highton More Jail Time

Highton pleaded guilty to administering a noxious substance with intent to injure, aggrieve, or annoy. The judge handed down the sentence at Maidstone Crown Court on 1 September 2021.

At the time, Highton was already serving an eight-and-a-half-year term for a 2010 Oxford robbery.

Detective Slams ‘Disgusting and Degrading’ Attack

“Highton has already spent a considerable part of his adult life in prison and this case shows he remains incapable of displaying the most basic standards of respect and decency,” said Detective Constable Matthew Robinson.

“The offence the victim suffered was disgusting and degrading. Prison officers face tough situations, but that doesn’t excuse Highton’s intolerable behaviour. We work closely with the prison service and will prosecute offenders to the full extent of the law.”

“I’m pleased a fresh jail term has been imposed. It sends a clear message: this sort of attack won’t be tolerated by us or the courts. I hope the victim feels justice has been served.”
