Grandfather Knifed to Death After Street Row in Southall
A 69-year-old grandfather was fatally stabbed after a brief argument on a sunny Southall street. Gurjeet Lall, 37, was found guilty of manslaughter but spared murder due to diminished responsibility. Today, he was locked up indefinitely under the Mental Health Act at Inner London Crown Court.
Community Figure Allan Isichei Murdered Over Spitting Row
Victim Allan Isichei was a well-known local figure, both as a Wasps 1 Club player and coach and as a saxophonist in a jazz band. On the evening of Saturday, 24 August 2019, he popped into his local pub, The Plough, for a quick pint – a regular spot for his band.
After enjoying a beer in the sunshine, Mr Isichei began walking home when he crossed paths with Lall. The pair exchanged words over Lall spitting in the street. In a split second, Lall pulled out a knife and stabbed the grandfather multiple times.
Tragic End to a Saturday Evening
Despite being stabbed, Mr Isichei managed to wrestle the knife away from Lall. He then staggered to a neighbour’s doorstep but collapsed. Paramedics rushed him to hospital, but he died en route.
“This was an unprovoked attack on a man who was returning home to his family for dinner having enjoyed a relaxing drink at his local pub,” said Bridget Fitzpatrick of the CPS.
“What should have been a normal Saturday evening ended in tragedy. Allan Isichei was a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose loss has devastated his family and friends. I hope this conviction and sentence give them some comfort.”
