Gas Leak Sparks Fiery Havoc in Terraced Homes

A ruptured gas main tore through the ground floor of a terraced house, sparking a blaze that didn’t stop there. Two more nearby homes went up in flames thanks to faulty fuse boxes. Meanwhile, dozens of properties on 1 Road and surrounding streets plunged into darkness after a widespread power outage.

Big Evacuation as Firefighters Battle Blazes

Police swooped in and enforced a safety cordon, evacuating around 70 residents from the danger zone. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The fire brigade was alerted at 6.15pm and had the situation under control by just after 8pm.

Firefighters Rush in From Three Stations

The scene saw four fire engines and roughly 25 firefighters from Norbury, Croydon, and West Norwood fire stations battling the inferno. Fire investigators now say the disaster was an accident, blaming a fault in a neutral supply cable for setting off the flames.
