Paedophile Jailed for Breaching Sexual Harm Prevention Order
Ben Champion, a Medway resident convicted of making indecent images of children, has been locked up for breaching the strict Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) imposed on him. The 31-year-old was sentenced to two years and eight months in jail at Maidstone Crown Court on 17 September.
Ignored Strict Court Rules
Champion, originally sentenced in 2020, was ordered to follow tight restrictions. These included:
- No unsupervised contact with children
- Notify police if staying somewhere new for more than seven days
- Keep internet history available for police checks
But on 18 April 2024, police found Champion was living at a different property than registered. Further investigations revealed he had contact with children and had deleted parts of his internet history.
Swift Police Action Cracks Down
Champion was arrested and charged with multiple breaches between March and April. He admitted guilt at Maidstone Crown Court.
“We regularly visit registered sex offenders to ensure they are obeying court conditions and not putting the public at risk,” said investigating officer PC Areolito Gashi.
“Once we discovered Champion’s false address, we tracked him down and confirmed he broke further restrictions. We are committed to protecting the most vulnerable and will arrest anyone who breaks the law again.”
