Van Theft Ends in Crash After Police Chase in Eastwood
Police were called to Newthorpe Common, Eastwood, after keys were reported stolen from a property’s kitchen. Minutes later, a van was taken from the driveway.
Suspect Crashes While Fleeing Police
Officers tried to stop the suspect vehicle. The driver lost control and smashed into a fence during the pursuit at around 9.50am on Monday, 21 March 2022.
Man Charged with Multiple Offences
Leon Cooper, 24, of Warwick Road, Somercotes, Derbyshire, has been charged with burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop, and dangerous driving. The charges relate to the incident in Eastwood.

“Vehicles are essential to their owners, and theft hits hard financially and practically. Road crime is a key priority for Broxtowe,” said Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Mike Ebbins of Nottinghamshire Police.
“We respond swiftly to track down stolen vehicles and pursue suspects involved in these crimes. Our officers worked quickly to identify the stolen van and detectives secured charges. The investigation continues as the case moves through the courts.”
