Prison Officer and Two Others Jailed for Drug Smuggling at HMP Doncaster

A prison officer and two accomplices have been behind bars for running a cocaine and contraband smuggling racket inside South Yorkshire’s HMP Doncaster. The trio, including officer Rio Moran, inmate James Millington, and man Callum Reilly, supplied drugs and illicit items to inmates — then laundered the dirty money.

Police Bust Officer with Stash of Drugs and Phones

South Yorkshire Police’s Prison Anti-Corruption Unit swooped on Moran as she arrived for work in November 2020. A search at her home uncovered a haul of drugs and phones destined for prisoners. While officers were there, Reilly turned up and tried to shove more illegal goods through the front door, aimed at HMP Doncaster.

Millington, locked up inside Doncaster, was identified as the recipient of the contraband and arrested. His partner Claire Anderson, caught with drugs and phones at her Stockport home, was also charged with helping the conspiracy unfold.

Cop’s Crime Shames Hardworking Prison Staff

“Our prisons are staffed by hard-working officers who do their job professionally despite the risks,” said Detective Constable Scott Jarvis. “For most, protecting inmates and helping rehabilitation is the priority. Those who break the law face tough justice.”

Detective Sergeant Gareth Gent added, “This case shows how our joint efforts with prisons identify corruption swiftly and bring offenders to justice. South Yorkshire Police are committed to supporting prison safety.”

John Hewitson, Serco Prison Director at HMP Doncaster, slammed Moran’s actions as “falling well short” of expected standards. “Serco has zero tolerance for law-breaking inside prison walls,” he said. “We’ll keep working with police to stamp out risks like this.”
