Glued to Hay Wain frame
Brighton duo Hannah Hunt, 23, and Eben Lazarus, 22, have been convicted of aggravated trespass and criminal damage at Westminster Magistrates Court. The pair targeted Constable’s iconic painting The Hay Wain at the National Gallery earlier this year.
On July 4th, they glued themselves to the frame after covering the masterpiece with a reimagined version. Their protest stunned visitors and sparked outrage.
Fines handed down but no jail time
Both Hunt and Lazarus were ordered to pay £850 fines each. The prosecution pushed for jail sentences, but the judge refused, taking into account their environmental motives.
“The reasons cited for taking action were considered deeply by the court,” a source said.
The case marks yet another clash between climate activists and authorities over protest tactics.
