Man Charged with Attempted Rape After Shocking Islington Park Attack
A 24-year-old man has been charged with attempted rape following a terrifying attack in an Islington park.
Attack Rocks Gillespie Park Near Arsenal Tube
Samuel Mumbaya, who has no fixed address, was arrested on October 19 and charged the next day. The horrifying assault took place just before 7pm on October 14 at Gillespie Park, close to Arsenal Underground station.
Police say a woman was walking through the park when Mumbaya, spotted lurking near some bushes, suddenly launched the attack. The victim’s quick thinking helped her escape, and a nearby man gave chase to the suspect.
Mumbaya to Face Court Today
Mumbaya is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this morning (October 21) to face the charges.
